</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Otto A. Spitz, 96, of Chester, IL, died September 3, 2008 at his residence in Chester, IL.
The son of John C. and Carolyn (Engelhardt) Spitz, he was born June 19, 1912 in Baldwin, IL.
On November 24, 1935, he married M. Virginia Parrott in Ellis Grove, IL, and she preceded him in death in 2001.
Otto had been a Trust Officer at Menard Correctional Center in Chester until his retirement in 1972. He loved the Lord and was a very faithful and active member of the First Baptist Church in Ellis Grove, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent for over 50 years.
Survivors include one daughter, Virginia (Dean) Feaman of Ellis Grove, IL & Meridianville, AL; one daughter-in-law, Patricia Spitz of Huntsville, AL; four grandchildren-Todd Spitz and Tammi Benware, both of Weatherford, TX, Scott (Sina) Roberts of Meridianville, AL, and Chris (Jill) Roberts of Auburn, AL; six great grandchildren-Cody Benware, Davis Roberts, Jennings Roberts, Ella Roberts, Jordan Roberts, and Tucker Roberts; two nieces-Dorothy (Allan) Witbart of Chester, IL and Marion (Charles) Young of Northbrook, IL; and one nephew, Wallace Spitz of St. Louis, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, John Spitz; and four infant sons; three sisters-Anna Veath, Delia Kohlenberger, and Barbara Spitz; and one brother, Wallace Spitz.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 6, 2008, at First Baptist Church, Ellis Grove, IL with Rev. Roger Reid officiating. Burial was in the Ellis Grove City Cemetery in Ellis Grove.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Ellis Grove, IL or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home, Chester, IL was in charge of the arrangements.
