Charles E. Thorpe

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Charles E. Thorpe, 74, of Du Quoin, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Charlie was born February 25, 1934 in Du Quoin, the son of Robert L. and Ruth (Toller) Thorpe. He married Betty J. (Murray) Thorpe on February 4, 1956 and she survives. Charlie served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a self-employed contractor and handyman until retirement. He has served as the minister at Missionary Baptist Church in Willisville for the last four years. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his wife. Charlie was a generous man who will forever be remembered and missed by all who loved him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters; Peggy Roberts of IL, Jackie Ferri of PA, Barbara Saathoff of NE and Mickey (Randy) Bourne of IL, two sons; Raymond (Judi) Roberts of FL and John Roberts of NE, three sisters; Pearl Danbury of IL, Barbara Harsey of IL and Mary Dodson of OK, two brothers; Darryl Thorpe of IL and Marshall Thorpe of IL, 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Thorpe.

A Memorial Service was held Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Missionary Baptist Church in Willisville. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to his church, Missionary Baptist Church in Willisville.

McDaniels Funeral Home in Sparta is in charge of arrangements.
