Earl was born on September 15, 1926 in Perry County, a son to Abijah Jackson and Margaret (Morgenthaler) Queen. He accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 13 at Holts Prairie Baptist Church in rural Pinckneyville, and was baptized soon after. He married Leah M. Hottes on June 7, 1952 in Perry County and she survives. Earl was a faithful member of his church and the Berean Sunday School Class. He served as church treasurer and was a member of the church building committee when the church was built. He served faithfully as a member of the church house and grounds committee. A very quiet and unassuming man, Earl was always ready to step in to fill a need, whether it was repairing a church window or giving a friend or neighbor a helping hand. He liked his garden and gave away most of what he grew. One of his favorite pastimes was coon hunting.
A defining quality of Earl's life was his desire to show God's love to his family and community by living in a manner to bring glory and honor to his Savior, Jesus Christ.
