Helen R. Rutherford

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Helen R. Rutherford, 87, of Du Quoin, passed away at 1:45 p.m., Friday, December 12, 2008 at the Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin.

Helen worked during the years her husband was a student in Chiropractic College, and then devoted herself to being a stay-at-home mom, providing a home for her husband and their four daughters, while he practiced in Kentucky, St. Louis, Harrisburg and Du Quoin.

Helen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Du Quoin, the Crusaders Sunday School Class, UMW and the Ruth Jakle Unit of the church.

She was born November 29, 1921 at Tamaroa, the daughter of Clay and Carrie ( Stockton) Reeves.

Helen married Willard (Doc) Rutherford on November 7, 1942 at Tamaroa, and he preceded her in death on October 20, 1992.

She is survived by four daughters- Carole Ewell and husband Jim of Elizabethtown, Paula Goebel and Jeanne Queen both of Du Quoin, Kim Garver and husband Donald of Ava, six grandchildren- Carrie Dehn and husband Ed of Bluford, Brian Ewell of Mt. Vernon, Stacy Miller of New Mexico, Wendi Lindsay and husband Bart of Champaign, Jason Ragland and wife Megan of Du Bois and Katelyn Garver of Ava, step grandson- Mitchell Garver and wife Aleshia of Campbell Hill, four great grandchildren- Ryan Dehn, Haley Dehn, Clayton Ewell and Brooke Ewell, sister- Esto Frederick and husband Darrell of Du Quoin, brother-in-law- Leo Feller of Du Quoin, sister-in-law- Bea Reeves of Du Quoin, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers-Henry Reeves and Paul Reeves, two sisters- Ruth Bookstaver and Edna Feller.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 15, at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Michael Ebershol officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the First United Methodist Church of Du Quoin Memorial Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
