</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Claudia M. (Picou) Vani, 59, of Farmington, MO, formerly of Kaskaskia, IL, died January 10, 2009 at her residence.

The daughter of Claude M. and Julia (Layton) Picou, she was born May 12, 1949 in Kaskaskia, IL.

On November 25, 1972, she married Joseph A. Vani.

Claudia graduated from Chester High School in 1967 and graduated from SIU Carbondale with a B.S. in Education in 1972.

Survivors include her husband of Farmington, MO; mother of Kaskaskia, IL; two daughters-Julia (Mike) Long of Murphysboro, IL and Anna Vani of St. Louis, MO; seven brothers-David Picou of Kaskaskia, IL, Leo (Amy) Picou of White Hall, IL, Ben Picou of Chester, IL, Ed Picou of Kaskaskia, IL, Dan (Yolanda) Picou of Galatia, IL, Ted (Tanis) Picou of Kaskaskia, IL, Peter ( Mona) Picou of Kaskaskia, IL; one sister, Toni Picou (special friend Steve Barber) of Marissa, IL; brother-in-law, Raymond Martin of Carbondale, IL; and one grandchild, Amelia Long. She was preceded in death by her father; one brother, Tim Picou; and one sister, Christina Martin.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Church, Kaskaskia, with Rev. Richard Kasznel officiating. Burial was in the Kaskaskia Cemetery, Kaskaskia, IL.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or BJC Hospice.
