Clifford Ivan Martie
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Clifford Ivan Martie, 89, of Dowell, passed away at 11:00 P.M., Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.
Clifford had worked as a roof bolter at Freeman United Coal Mine #6. He was a member of the Knoff Bend United Pentecostal Church in Elkville. He was a member of UMW of A. He had worked for over twenty-five years in the dry cleaning business in Du Quoin.
He was born November 15, 1919 at Elk Prairie, IL, the son of Henry and Ada Idesi (Riley) Martie.
He married Helen Maxine Williams on September 19, 1940 at Cape Girardeau, MO and she preceded him in death on May 25, 1993.
He is survived by one daughter - Helen Louise Ross and husband Ralph of Dowell, one brother - Clyde Martie of Hallidayboro, two grandchildren - Jody Lynn Compton and husband Troy and Ralph Ross, Jr. and wife Melody, six great grandchildren - Stephenie Veach, Ross Cook and wife Sarah, Nicole Ross, Megan Holford, Gina Bombardo, and Antonio Bombardo, three great great grandchildren - Mason Lee Veach, Emily Rose Veach, and Brookelynn Elizabeth Messer, and special friend - June Stidd.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one daughter - Myra Sue Martie, one son - Donald Wayne Martie, two brothers - Clarence Martie and Claude Martie, one sister - Margie Maxedon, and one granddaughter - Rhonda Louise Bombardo.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at the Knoff Bend United Pentecostal Church in Elkville with Rev. Merle Macke officiating.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 P.M., Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 9 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Tuesday.
Burial will be in the Hallidayboro Cemetery at Hallidayboro.
Friends may make memorials to the Hospice of Southern Illinois or Knoff Bend United Pentecostal Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
