Rev. John R. Lee
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Rev. John R. Lee, 84, of McLeansboro, passed away Saturday April 18, 2009, at 5:31 a.m. at his residence.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 20, at First General Baptist Church in McLeansboro.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, at Ten Mile Church in McLeansboro with Rev. Mark Lee, Rev. Tim Lee and Rev. Harl Cockrum officiating.
Burial will be held at Oddfellows (I.O.O.F.) Cemetery in McLeansboro.
John was born December 5, 1924, in Harco, Ill., to John R. Lee, Sr., and Flossie (Satterfield) Lee. He married Wanda Mae (Johnson) Lee on July 15, 1945 in Dale, Ill.
John was a retired minister, bus driver for Hamilton Co. Schools, and a roofer. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church in Dale, Ill. John began preaching in 1950 and pastored many churches in our community. He loved gardening and fishing.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Seaman First Class in the South Pacific and received the Bronze Star.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Lee of McLeansboro; daughter, Jennifer and husband Danny Wilkerson of Alpharetta, Ga.; four sons, Tim Lee and wife Connie of Rowlett, Texas, Terry Lee of Fishers, Ind., Roger Lee and wife Penny of McLeansboro, Mark Lee and wife Rita of Pinckneyville; sisters Reva Phillips of McLeansboro, Laura Irvin and husband Robert of Carterville, Wanda Dennis and husband Morris of Enfield, Phyllis Bond and husband Obe of McLeansboro, Marilyn Smith of McLeansboro; brothers, Roy Lee and wife Minnie of Evansville, Ind., Donald Lee of Powder Springs, Ga., Robert Lee of McLeansboro, Doyle Lee and wife Pat of Lake St. Louis, Mo., and David Lee and wife Karla, West Frankfort; 10 grandchildren, Veronica Heley and husband James of Brasselton, Ga., Derrick Wilkerson and wife Misty of Canton, Ga., Brian Lee and wife Jennifer of Sache, Texas, Jana Hooten and husband Steve of Rowlett, Texas, Amber Lee or Garland, Texas, Lori Halligan and husband Michael of Tallahassee, Fla., Amy Brown and husband Mark of Crawfordville, Fla., Bethany Moore and husband Jason of McLeansboro, Brittany McConachie and husband Michael of Pinckneyville, and Courtney Lee of Pinckneyville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preced in death by his parents; brother, Emerson Lee; and one great-grandson.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the First General Baptist and Ten Mile Church as well as Harre Funeral Home.
