Betty J. Gleaton

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Betty J. Gleaton, 87, of Dowell, passed away at 3:20 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at the Fairview Nursing Center in Du Quoin.

Betty had worked as a clerk for the Dowell Post Office. She was a member of Dowell Baptist Church. She had also worked at Mallory Electronics for many years and at Country Set. She was active in Dowell PTA and had served as President.

She was born June 18, 1922 at Williamson County, the daughter of Charles E. and Edith (Beasley) Murrah.

She married Carl Gleaton on February 12, 1945 at Arlington, Ga., and he survives.

She is survived by her husband of Dowell, one daughter - Pamela J. Arnold of Windsor, Calif., one granddaughter - Christine Thomas of Pittsburgh, Calif., three great grandchildren - Demetrius Thomas of Mesa, Ariz., Mia Thomas and Devin Thomas, both of Pittsburgh, Calif., and one brother - Bill Murrah of Lawrenceville, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother - C.J. Murrah.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 10, 2009 at the Dowell Baptist Church in Dowell with Rev. Gary Pate officiating.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the church.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Dowell Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
