Richard V. Hietanen

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Richard V. "Dick" Hietanen, age 73, of Tamaroa, Ill., passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009 in Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.

Dick was born on April 30, 1936 in Sheffield, Ohio, a son to Vaino M. and Helen B. (Sarbiewski) Hietanen. On June 16, 1956, he married Janet M. Palmiter in Jefferson, Ohio and she survives. Dick was a member of the family of Friendship Church of Christ, Tamaroa, Ill., a member of the Lion's Club in Central City, Carterville and Pinckneyville and a veteran of the United States Navy, where he served as an electrician 1st Class during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He worked for Molded Fiberglass of Ashtabula, Ohio as an electrician and assisted in the plant relocation to Centralia, Ill.. The plant became Rockwell International and Dick was plant engineer. In 1979, Dick opened Hietanen Appliance in Centralia, Ill. and that became a Maytag Direct Store. In 2004, the store relocated to Marion, Ill. and eventually closed due to the closing of the Marion Maytag Plant. Dick worked part-time at True Value Hardware after he and his wife Janet retired to Pinckneyville, Ill.

Dick is survived by his wife, two daughters: Nancy Timpner and husband: Bill of Pinckneyville, Ill., and Denise Waggoner and friend: Doug Dunbar of Columbus, Nebr. and two grandchildren: Mallory and Will Timpner of Pinckneyville, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Dorothy Upole, step-mother: Margaret "Peg" Hietanen and one son-in-law: Richard "Rick" Waggoner.

Funeral services were held at Friendship Church of Christ, Tamaroa, Ill. on Monday, Aug. 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Minister Randy Allison officiating. Interment was private.

Friends called at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., on Monday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. and then at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
