George Bernard Rogers

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[George Bernard Rogers, age 87, of Rochester, N.Y., passed away Saturday, Aug. 22.

He was predeceased by his wife Esther (Strong) Rogers, brother, Charles Eugene Rogers of Columbus, Ohio, and parents, Charles and Elsina (Purdy) Rogers of Ill.

He is survived by daughter, Elizabeth Church (Richard), and adored grandchildren, Mary and Johnny.

Mr. Rogers was born July 23, 1922 in Du Quoin. George served on the USS Bowie in the South Pacific theater in WWII, married Esther in 1947 and settled in St. Louis. George moved with his family to Rochester in 1968 to work as Benefits and Compensation Manager, Mobil Chem. Corp in Macedon and after working in Australia for one year, retired in 1985.

George was a true gentleman, considerate of others and loved by many. An active member of Asbury First UMC since 1969, George supported the church through his talents, gifts and service as long as he was able. George took special joy in his grandchildren, celebrating all their accomplishments and achievements.

Interment at White Haven Memorial Park will be at the family's convenience. A celebration of George's life will be held Wednesday, September 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Asbury First United Methodist Church, 1050 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14607.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Asbury First United Methodist Church memorial fund.
