Katherine L. Mohlenbrock

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Katherine L. "Kot" Mohlenbrock, 99, of Murphysboro died at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 in Murphysboro.

Kot was born in Du Quoin, Ill. Jan. 20, 1910 a daughter to the late Charles Herman and Sally Maud (Easley)Weinberg. She married Dr. William D. Mohlenbrock in Du Quoin, Ill. on Dec. 18, 1937, Dr. Bill preceded her in death Aug. 1, 1999.

After High School in Du Quoin she attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo. for one year then graduated from the University of Illinois in 1932. She also had further education with extensive training in social services at the University of Chicago and the well noted settlement Hull House. While at the University of Illinois she was an active member of the Chi Omega Sorority, and was a constant promoter of the University of Illinois and had served on the University of Illinois Alumni Board for six years.

She was the first social worker for Jackson County. From 1961 through 1976 she worked in various downstate social and children's agencies, including Jackson, Randolph, and Perry Counties. In 1959 she was appointed Juvenile Probation Officer by Jackson County Judge Peyton Kunce and served in that capacity until 1973.

Kot was an avid sports fan and golfer. In the 1950's and 1960's she was ladies division club champion at the Jackson Country Club seven times. She competed in many state amateur and seniors golf tournaments and served in the state golfing board for three years. She was an active member of the Jackson County Home Extension Board, St. Joseph Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Jackson County Medical Auxiliary, Life Member of the Jackson County Historical Society and the University of Illinois Alumni Association. Kot was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Murphysboro serving the church as Superintendent of the Primary Sunday School Department for many years, was a deacon and a Ruling Elder and was currently a member of the Session.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church in Murphysboro; Rev. Charles Walden of the First Presbyterian Church officiated. Burial was at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park near Murphysboro. Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5, 2009 at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro and on Tuesday at the church from

9 a.m. until the hour of services.

Memorials are encouraged and may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Murphysboro or to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law; Dr. William C. and Betty Mohlenbrock of Del Mar, Calif., one granddaughter; Katherine E. Graham, and four great-grandchildren, Brock, Gunner, Margot and Marianne.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one sister; Betty Brown and one brother; Robert Weinberg.
