Second Team donates to summer food program

HARRISBURG - In a news release, Harrisburg Unit 3 Superintendent Mike Gauch praised the recent donation of the Harrisburg Second Team Association to the district for its summer food program.

"For the second year in a row the Harrisburg CUSD #3 has received a generous donation from the Harrisburg Second Team Association. The Second Team is comprised of a group of businessmen from Harrisburg who join together for the good of the community. As a final act of generosity they have graciously given the School District a total $20,212.09 through out the last two years," Gauch said.

"It was their wishes that the $10,000 donation last year be applied to the Summer Food Program and that the final donation of $10,212.09 be used to create a fund that will directly beneļ¬t the students of the Harrisburg School District.

"The combined efforts of the incoming Superintendent Dr. Eric Witges, along with the current Superintendent Mike Gauch, School Counselor Lynn Penrod, and Food Service Coordinator Valarie Hodges the KIND (Kids in Need Drive) Fund has been created. Often times the administrators, teachers, and staff see needs that are far beyond the reach of other organizations; this is where that gap will be bridged.

"Harrisburg has and always will, because of the kindness of organizations such as the Second Team, make a way for our kids."
