</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Larry Richard "Alex" Alexander, age 70, of Du Quoin, Ill., formerly of Paris, Ill. and Kissimmee, Fla., passed away on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 at 8:20 p.m. in Marshall Browning Hospital, Du Quoin, Ill.
Alex was born on Sept. 25, 1939 in Paris, Ill., a son to Leonard and Lorine (Griest) Alexander. He married Rosemary Haarman in Mattoon, Ill. and she survives. Alex retired as a construction worker and was a member of American Legion Post 647 Auxiliary and V.F.W. Post 513 Auxiliary both in Du Quoin, Ill.
Alex is survived by his wife Rosemary, three children: Stephen (Larinda) Alexander of Chrisman, Ill., Kelly (Troy) Hale of Chrisman, Ill. and Lanny Alexander of Packston, Ill., three step-children: Doug Shuemaker of Astoria, Ore., Wesley (LaDonna) Shuemaker of Du Quoin, Ill. and Debbie (Bill) Russell of Red Stone, Colo., one sister: Judy (Larry) Smart of Mattoon, Ill., seven grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous step-great-grandchildren and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Gloria Russell and an infant sister.
Memorial service will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Du Quoin, Ill. on Friday, Dec. 4, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.
Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Du Quoin, Ill. on Friday, Dec. 4, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
At Alex's request cremation was held. Family and friends were invited to a luncheon at the V.F.W. following the memorial service.
