Ruby Lee Simmons

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Ruby Lee Simmons, age 90, of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:08 a.m. on Friday, July 16, 2010 at Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Ruby was born in Herrin on Jan. 31, 1920, the daughter of Marion and Ruth (Fulkerson) Boatright. She married William Edward Simmons in Cape Girardeau, Mo. on May 18, 1940. They shared 52 years of marriage until his passing on April 4, 2003.

Ruby retired from the State of Illinois where she did clerical work in the licensing department.

Survivors include her son- Gary Simmons of Du Quoin, Ill.; five grandchildren- Diane Zara of Springfield, Ill., Jeff Zara of Springfield, Ill., Mark Simmons of Dumpfries, Va., Amy Swoboda of Springfield, Ill. and Travis Dean Simmons of Auburn, Ill.; four great grandchildren and a brother- Carl and Barbara Boatright of San Marcus, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband. Daughter- Gloria Simmons, Son- Donald Simmons, two brothers- Delmar Emery and Gene Boatright.

Graveside memorial services were held at 11a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion with Mr. Gordon Lambert officiating. Family and friends were asked to gather directly at the cemetery.

Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion assisted the family with arrangements.
