He was born to Henry Harrison and Mattie (nee: Parker) Essex on January 28, 1927 in Villa Ridge, Illinois. He married Hazel Womack on August 9, 1987 in Chester, IL. She survives

Homer was a retired officer at Menard Correctional Center.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Steeleville, ASCME Retirees, VFW Post #3553 in Chester and the Okaw Valley Beagle Club. He was an Army Veteran of WWII.

Preceded in death by: Parents, 3 Brothers and 4 Sisters

Memorial Service: 12:00 pm, Saturday October 9, 2010 at First Baptist Church, Steeleville, IL Officiant: Rev. William McCluskey

Visitation: Saturday 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at First Baptist Church, Steeleville, IL

Memorials: St. Jude or Shriner's Hospital
