Vera M. Ruby Fleming

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Vera M. Ruby Fleming, 82, of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:43 p.m., Friday, Nov. 12, 2010 at the Marshall Browning Hospital at Du Quoin.

Vera was a homemaker. She had worked in the accounting department at P. R. Mallory and retired from the Perry County Health Department as a WIC Clerk. She was a member of the Gospel Assembly Church of Du Quoin and had served as the church secretary for several years. She was a member of the church choir.

She was born April 11, 1928 at West Frankfort, Ill. the daughter of Ocie and Lillie Mae (Parr) Abbott.

Vera married Ira Don Ruby on Sept. 21, 1958 at Du Quoin, Ill. and he passed away Jan. 6, 2002. She then married Johnnie H. Fleming on March 24, 2005 at Du Quoin, Ill. and he survives.

She is survived by her husband of Du Quoin, two daughters- Veronica Gasaway of Hoschton, Ga., Yvonne Overton and husband Earl of Du Quoin, son- Don Ruby and wife Michelle of Lawrenceville, Ga., two step sons- John W. Fleming and wife Rhonda of Du Quoin and Steven A. Fleming and wife Stacey of Eckert, Colo., three brothers- Henry Abbott of Murphysboro, Lloyd Abbott and Gene Abbott both of Du Quoin, sister- Bette Garrett of Decatur, Ga., 16 grandchildren- Jordan Gasaway, Ryan Gasaway, Austin Gasaway, Trevor Ruby, Tyler Ruby, Jesse James, Dalton James, Mandy and Paul Bialek, Jona and Kyle Black, Sarah and Brandon Hendrix, Heather and Brock Willis, Steven Fleming, Brittany and Garrett Kelleher, Breanna Fleming and fiance T.J. Carmach, Amber and Justin Sargent, Bregan Fleming and special friend Trevor Cockrum, nine great grandchildren- Katlyn Swallers, Brooklyn Willis, Addison Willis, Chaz Hendrix, Adrianna Hendrix, Clayton Hendrix, Colie Kelleher, Mason Fleming, Makaelah Carmach.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Don Ruby, two brothers- Harold and James Abbott, three sisters- Opal McDonald, Nadine Jones, Imogene Cook.

Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010 at the Gospel Assembly Church in Du Quoin with Rev. Dennis Fitzsimmons and Dr. Philip Nordstrom officiating.

Friends called from Noon to time of service at the church on Sunday.

Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Gospel Assembly Church of Du Quoin and will be accepted at the funeral home.
