Walter E. Swallers

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Walter E. "Bud" Swallers, 82, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8:31 a.m., Monday, Jan. 24, 2011 at the Marshall Browning Hospital at Du Quoin.

Bud had worked as a welder in mine construction. He had also worked at the Du Quoin Packing Company. He was a Southern Baptist. Bud had been a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the UMW of A, Du Quoin American Legion and Du Quoin V.F.W.

He was born Feb. 29, 1928 at Du Quoin, Ill., the son of Henry and Hazel (Lemons) Swallers. He was a leap year baby.

He married Nancy "Tink" Richerson on Feb. 29, 1948 at Morganfield, Ky. and she preceded him in death on Oct. 23, 2002.

He is survived by two daughters - Connie Jean Shryock and husband Chuck of Orlando, Fla. and Tena Elaine Rennison and husband Bob of Du Quoin, one sister-in-law - Joann Siefert and husband Joe of Du Quoin, six grandchildren - Ami Jo Coltrin and husband David, Joey Swallers and fiance Michelle, Rebecca Shryock, Rob Rennison, Scott Rennison and Jon Rennison, six great grandchildren - Jessica Coltrin, Megan Coltrin, Sam Coltrin, Rosalie Coltrin, Katlyn Swallers and Noah Swallers, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son - Joseph Swallers and daughter-in-law - Irene Swallers, two children in infancy, one sister - Rosalie Longshore and one brother - Henry Swallers, Jr.

Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m., Friday, Jan. 28, 2011 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Military graveside rites were conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion.
