Phyllis Gayle Simmons
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Phyllis Gayle Simmons, 81, of Decatur, Ala. passed away at her residence on June 19, 2012.
Phyllis was born April 27, 1931, in Du Quoin, Ill. She worked at Du Quoin, Ill. hospital until she married in 1949. She was a small business owner in Decatur, Ala. from 1984 until 1991. Phyllis was a homemaker and an avid quilt maker.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home in Decatur, Ala. The service will be Friday at 2 p.m at the funeral home with Hal Dean Eddy officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Bessie Elizabeth Coleman and one brother, Donald Coleman. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Lowell A. (Sonny) Simmons of Decatur, Ala.; one son, Stephen Lowell Simmons of Decatur, Ala.; two daughters, Carol A. Taylor (Richard) of Decatur, Ala. and Cynthia K. Chandler (Gene) of Decatur, Ala.; two sisters, Earlean Rice of Du Quoin, Ill. and Shirley Bush of Normal, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Tina Austin, Sonny Taylor, Charles Simmons, Stephanie Simmons, Phillip Chandler, Gene Chandler, Cecelia McCleskey all of Morgan County; six great-grandchildren, Jessica Austin, Daniel Austin, Megan Chandler, Kaylee Chandler, Sarah Chandler, Jonothan McCleskey all of Morgan County, one great-great grandchild, Jaden Greene of Morgan County and special friends Bill and Betty Martin of Decatur, Ala.
Pallbearers will be Sonny Taylor, Daniel Austin, Charles Simmons, Gene Chandler, Phillip Chandler, and Garion McCleskey.
In lieu of flowers family requests donations be made to Hospice of North Alabama.
