Imogene Doerr

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Imogene (Schimpf) Doerr, 86, of Vergennes, went on to be with the Lord at 9:16 a.m. Sunday, July 22, 2012, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Imogene was born Sept. 8, 1925, in Vergennes to Frank and Marie (Butcher) Schimpf. She married Ray Doerr on Oct. 30, 1944; Ray, of Vergennes, survives. She loved her family, friends, and the auction business.

Imogene graduated from Vergennes High School in 1943. Soon after high school, she moved to St. Louis and was employed by Famous Barr. After the death of her father in 1943, she returned to Vergennes and was instrumental in operating Schimpf&#39;s Standard Service, her family&#39;s general store and service station. In 1945, Imogene began working at the Vergennes Post Office, retiring after 27 years of service. After retirement, Ime became very involved in Ray&#39;s auction business, opening their first auction barn and establishing weekly consignment auctions.

Imogene had been the Treasurer of Elverado School District and the Treasurer of Creekpaum Cemetery for the past 30 years. She was a member of The Republican Women&#39;s Club, Illinois Auctioneers Association Auxiliary and Red Hatters. Ime and Ray were avid square dancers in the past and more recently had enjoyed traveling in their motor home.

Imogene was the longest standing member of the Vergennes Faith United Methodist Church and the longest standing resident of Vergennes.

She is survived by her husband, Ray; her son, Jeff and wife Charletta Doerr of Vergennes; three grandchildren, Jessica Doerr-Berger and husband Brett of Murphysboro, Natasha Kaupanger-Swacker and husband Keefe of Los Angeles, California and Santana Doerr of Vergennes; two great-grandchildren, Grant Berger of Murphysboro and Klara Kaupanger-Swacker of Los Angeles; one brother, Dale Schimpf and wife Judy of Vergennes and numerous nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Glenn Allen Schimpf.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Faith United Methodist Church in Vergennes, with Pastor Angie Baughman officiating; burial will be at Creekpaum Cemetery near Vergennes. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Faith United Methodist Church.
