Alvena O. Degler
Alvena O. Degler, 90, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., formerly of Du Quoin, passed away at 11:00 a.m., Monday, Sept. 17, 2012 at the Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee, Mo.
Alvena had been a homemaker. She was a member of Mt. Auburn Christian Church in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
She was born Nov. 4, 1921 at Tamaroa, Ill., the daughter of Joseph Aaron and Nettie (Spann) Thompson.
She married Freddie G. Degler on March 30, 1941 at Cape Girardeau, Mo. and he preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 1991.
She is survived by three daughters - JoAnn Vantrump and husband George of Wheat Ridge, Colo., Becky Schneider of Tampa, Fla. and Gay Lynn Halter and husband Mike of Cape Girardeau, Mo., one son - Tim Alan Degler and wife Georgia of Tamaroa, 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and eight sisters.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Pastor Richard Degler officiating.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to Alzheimer's Association or Breast Cancer and will be accepted at the funeral home.
