Bertha Berner
Bertha Berner, 95, of Mulkeytown, passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012 at Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Mrs. Berner was born Aug. 30, 1917 in Du Quoin to Jack and Caroline (Kunkel) Cook. She married Ralph Berner on Aug. 16, 1938 and he preceded her in death.
She was a farm wife and homemaker. Mrs. Berner was active in the Mulkeytown Christian Church, was a 4-H leader and was involved with the Franklin County Farm Bureau. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking and canning, needlework and raising chickens.
Surviving are her children, Evelyn and Clyde Furlow of Mulkeytown and Ivan and Gloria Berner of Mulkeytown; grandchildren, Christy and Paul Douglas of Mulkeytown and Brad Furlow of Aurora, Colo.; granddaughter-in-law, Julie Berner of Christopher; four great-grandchildren, Andrea and Chelsea Douglas, Heather Rentfro and Dakota Berner and one great-great-granddaughter, Emma Lou Rentfro.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband; parents; two brothers, Everett and Oscar Cook; an infant son and one grandson, Brian Berner.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 11 a.m. at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher with Rev. Kurt Jensen officiating.
Interment will be in Mulkeytown Cemetery in Mulkeytown, Ill.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mulkeytown Christian Church, Southern Illinois Christian Service Camp of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and will be accepted at the funeral home.
