Mary Ellen Stewart

Mary Ellen Stewart, age 89, of Du Quoin, Ill. passed away on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 in Fair Acres Nursing Home, Du Quoin, Ill.

Mary was born on May 19, 1923 in Covington, Tenn., a daughter to Clarence E. and Estella (Myers) Delk. In 1942 she married Leon Stoner in Herando , Miss. and he passed away in World War II. She then married Cleveland "Mack" Stewart on June 14, 1947 in Forest City, Ark., and he preceded her in death on March 4, 1991.

She was a member of Spirit of Life Christian Church, Du Quoin, Ill. Mary loved her church and was a stay-at-home mom who loved taking care of her kids and making delicious meals and goodies. She and Cleveland loved to bowl and were in bowling leagues for many years. They also loved to fish and made many trips to Kentucky Lake.

Survivors include one son: Donald (Patrice) Stewart of Ft. Worth, Tex., two daughters: Margaret (Carl) McKinstry of Du Quoin, Ill., Sandra (Joe) Hooper of St. Louis, Mo., one step daughter: Doris (Carl) Henderson of Goreville, Ill.; seven grandchildren Lisa (Mike) Rice, Cathi McClanahan, Carol (Ron) Green, Wayne (Cindy) Knapp, Jerry (Dianna) Knapp, Eric Hooper and Jeremy McKinstry; 13 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands and one sister, Patricia Ann Thweatt.

Funeral services will be held at Spirit of Life Christian Church, Du Quoin, Ill. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Gerald Wright officiating.

Interment will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.

Friends may call at Spirit of Life Christian Church, Du Quoin, Ill. on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society.
