Darrell Eugene Frederick
Darrell Eugene Frederick, 99, of Du Quoin, passed away at 7:55 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the Fair Acres Rehab & Care Center in Du Quoin.
Darrell served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. He achieved the rank of Tech. Sergeant and was stationed in Leyte, New Guinea and the Philippines. When he returned to the states he was employed as parts and service manager at Sims Motor Sales in Du Quoin. In 1953 he opened Frederick's Battery Station on the corner of Park and Division. Darrell owned and operated the station until he retired in 1985.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin.
Darrell was born Sept. 21, 1914 at Martinsville, Ill. the son of Bethel and Lucy (Shanks) Frederick.
He married Esto Marie Reeves on April 19, 1936 at the Tamaroa Christian Church she preceded him in death on Oct. 2, 2009.
He is survived by his son- Charlie Frederick and wife Diana of Boynton Beach, Fla., grandsons- Matthew Frederick and wife Jessica and her daughter Mia of Jupiter, Fla. and Benjamin Frederick and wife Shannon and two great grandsons- Clay James Frederick and Brady Matthew Frederick all of Boynton Beach, Fla., his loving sister- Iris Montgomery of Du Quoin, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and five brothers- Randall Frederick, Don Frederick, Durward Frederick, Keith Frederick and Kenneth Frederick.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.
Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin VFW, Du Quoin American Legion and the Army National Guard.
In lieu of flowers friends may make memorials to the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin and will be accepted at the funeral home.
