Herschel W. Siefert

Herschel W. Siefert, 71, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

Herschel had been a haulage truck driver for Consolidated Coal Company #4. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin. He was a member of the UMW of A. He enjoyed working with his horse and driving his Amish buggy. Herschel was an avid coon hunter and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a U.S. Army National Guard of Illinois veteran.

He was born Aug. 9, 1942 at Du Quoin, Ill., the son of Charles H. and Myrtle (Beard) Siefert.

He married Eileen R. Jahnke on Sept. 18, 1965 at Du Bois, Ill. and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, two daughters - Kimberly Siefert and fiance John Guy of Palmyra, Ind. and Stacey Edward and husband Chris of Omaha, Neb., three grandchildren - Greyson Wayne Edward, Dagny Edward and Maebry Edward, all of Omaha, Neb., three sisters - Audrey Taylor Webb, Ilene Tregoning and Janet Nevill, all of Du Quoin, two brothers - Donald Siefert and wife Betty of Du Quoin and Glenn Siefert and wife Marilyn of Cuba, Ill., many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son - Matthew Wayne Siefert, two sisters - Betty Dolce and Margie Mileur and two brothers - Vern Siefert and Charles Siefert.

Per Herschel's request, cremation services will be held.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin with Fr. Joseph Oganda officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday.

Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion and Army National Guard.
