Jessie Leon James
Jessie Leon James, 77, of Du Quoin, passed away at 5:38 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2014 at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Jessie had been a farmer. He had also been a dozer operator at Consol #4 Coal Mine for 23 years. He was a member of the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church. Jessie was also a member of the UMW of A. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing vegetables for his family and friends.
He was born July 3, 1936 at Corning, Ark., the son of Grover Allen and Elva Tennessee (Pruitt) James.
He married Mary J. Pratt on Jan. 14, 1964 at Reno, Ark. and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years of Old Du Quoin, children - Danny Brickley and wife Dolly of Little Rock, Ark., Anthony 'Tony' James and wife Penny of Vergennes, Jesse James of Du Quoin, Teresa James Bowlin and husband Kenny of Du Quoin, Jimmy James of Roland, Okla., Mike James of Du Quoin, Robin James Meyer and husband John of Ft. Smith, Ark., Sheila James Johnston of Du Quoin, Carolyn James Boss and husband Phillip of Du Quoin and Frankie James and wife Gretchen of Du Quoin, grandkids - Brian, Brad and Becky James, Jesse, Dalton, Austin and Decker James, John Warren, John Justin Hagelund, Dustin Steele, Kacie Boss, Megan Steidley, Nate Boss, Rachael Johnston, Keenan Johnston, Dawson and Olivia James, Noah James, Tina Sullivan and Travis Poteete, one sister - Winnie Rogers of Corning, Ark., his extended family - Adam Boss and wife Kelly and children of Sunfield and John Perry Boss of Granite City, Ill., 10 great granddaughters, 10 great grandsons, two great great granddaughters, two great great grandsons, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Ted Clark officiating.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church, American Heart Association or to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.
