George Joseph Martin

George Joseph Martin, age 81, of Perryville, MO, formerly of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 11:37 p.m. at Three Springs Lodge Nursing Home, Chester, IL.

George was born on July 22, 1934 in Pinckneyville, IL, a son to George F. and Caroline L. "Carrie" (Bruns) Martin. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. On December 27, 1954, he married Maxine Siegfried in Chester, IL and she survives. He had worked as a coal miner at Streamline and Captain Mines. George was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL, the U.M.W.A., the Knights of Columbus, and the Eagles, and loved gardening, working and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Maxine Martin of Perryville, MO; a son, Tim (Laurie) Martin of Perryville, MO; a son-in-law, Pete Graham; three brothers, Joe (Marilyn) Martin, Bernard (Jane) Martin and Steve Martin; five sisters, Juliann Loos, Mary Faulkner, Tammy Martin, Mary Skort and Christina (Lee) Moore; two grandchildren, Shannon and Brandon Martin; and two close cousins, Marilyn Herring and Jim Bruns.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kimberly Graham; a grandson, Abraham Martin; two brothers, Frank Martin and John Martin; and three sisters, Carolyn Martin, Joann Sexton and Cathy Presswood.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. with Father Augustine Ibezimako officiating. Interment will be in St. Bruno Catholic Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.

Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
