Richard Lee Chappell

Richard Lee Chappell, 76, of Du Quoin, passed away at 1:57 P.M., Sunday, November 22, 2015 at the Select Hospital in Evansville, IN.

Richard was a custodian and worked at the Dist. 300 schools. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Du Quoin and was a member of the Du Quoin American Legion.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran where he served as a Sgt. with the Ord. Co. 4th Bn 333d Arty 4th U.S. Army, he served from 1960 to 1962.

He was born August 13, 1939 at E. St. Louis, IL, the son of Barney D. and Iva (Simpson) Chappell.

He married La Don Davis on July 16, 1978 and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, one son - Richard L. (Rick) Chappell Jr. of Russellville, MO, brother - Robert Wayne Chappell of Summerville, GA, two sisters - Betty Zenor of Glasgow, KY, and Virginia Lancey of Highland, IL, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Kent Eaton officiating.

Friends may call from noon until the time of service on Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Denning Cemetery at West Frankfort, IL.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin VFW, Du Quoin American Legion and the Army National Guard.

Friends may make memorials to Second Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
