Obituary for Melvin "Jack" Schulte
<p dir="ltr"><span>MELVIN "JACK" SCHULTE, 93</span><span>, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 5:26 am, Monday, October 17, 2016 at The Manor at Craig Farms in Chester, Illinois.</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>He was born to the late Henry and Elsie (nee Schamel) Schulte on December 26, 1922 in McBride, Missouri.</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>Jack retired from the Federal Barge Line and Chester Mental Health Center in Chester, Illinois. He served in World War II with the 104th Infantry Timber Wolf Division in and received three Battle Stars, a Combat Infantry Badge and a Bronze Star.</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>He served in combat in Belgium, Holland and Germany. He crossed the Rhine River into Germany and was there for the German surrender.</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>He was a charter member of the VFW Post No. 4282 in Perryville, Missouri and the Moose Lodge No. 1764 in Chester. He was a member of VFW Post No. 3553 in Chester, Illinois, American Legion No. 487 in Chester, Life Timber Wolf Association and the AFSCME Retiree Club.</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>Jack was a member of the undefeated 1941 Perryville High School all Conference Football Team. He was a 1942 graduate of Perryville High School.</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>Survivors include one brother: Edward "Toby" (Dona) Schulte, Little Rock Ark.; one sister: Maxine (Ray) Wilson, Overland, Mo.; one sister-in-law: Pat Schulte, Chester, and many nieces nephews cousins and friends, who always enjoyed his company at family gatherings.</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>He was preceded in death by parents, three brothers and sisters-in-law: Harry Jr. "Jip" (Tad) Schulte, Jesse (Oreta) Schulte and Calvin Schulte and five sisters and brothers-in-law: Thelma (Tony) Stark, Euline (Patrick) Schutte, Leona (Emmet) Hoffman, Lyndola (Floyd) Hudson and Dorothy (Charlie) Walls.</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 20, at Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home in Chester with Dr. Mike Fogerson officiating.</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>Interment is in Evergreen Cemetery in Chester. Memorials can be made to VFW Post No. 4282 in Perryville and American Legion Post No. 487 in Chester.</span><span> </span>
