George J. Hestand

George J. Hestand, 84, of Tamaroa, passed away at 3:55 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014 at the Fair Acres Rehab and Care Center in Du Quoin.

George had worked as a coal miner at Orient #6 located in Waltonville, Ill. and worked as a meat inspector for Blue Bell for many years. George was a member of the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church.

He was born April 25, 1930 at Du Quoin, Ill., the son of Stanley D. and Mary R. (Czayo) Hestand. He married Frances E. Stephens on Oct. 29, 1949 in Du Quoin, Ill. and she preceded him in death on Feb. 16, 2004.

He is survived by five daughters - Helen Ferguson and husband Randy of Carterville, Ill., Carol Hartsock and husband Steve of Du Quoin, Ill., Catherine Reyes of St. Cloud, Minn., Sarah George of Oakdale, Ill. and Mary Doerschuck and husband James of Okawville, Ill., 10 grandchildren - Desiree Bundy, Bruce Eisenhauer, Christian Eisenhauer, Duane Meske, De Anna Meske, Brittany Neal, Jamie Harris, Matthew Pyle, Marcus Pyle and Elizabeth Grigsby, 14 great-grandchildren, one brother - Stanley Hestand of Carbondale, Ill. and special friend - Betty Swink of Christopher, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and one brother - Clifton Hestand.

Funeral Services will be at 12 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Ted Clark officiating.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin. Burial will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery in Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.
