Dorothy Tucker of Carbondale

Dorothy Tucker, 89, of Carbondale passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, at Manor Court.

She was born Oct. 31, 1928, in Carbondale to Ide and Clara (McGarvey) Ellis.

She married Robert Tucker May 3, 1948, and together they shared 67 years of marriage.

Dorothy is survived by her three sons, Jerry (Susan) Tucker of Stuart, Fla., John (Gay) Tucker of Makanda and Michael (Michelle) Tucker of Chesterfield, Mo.; nieces Patti (Jon) Mueller of Steeleville, Sharon Bender of Murphysboro, Debbie (Gardner) Jones of Chesterfield, Mo., and Charlie (Ellie) Foehner of Florida; nephew Martin (Mary) Ellis of Bridgeton, Mo.; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven sisters and two brothers.

Dorothy dearly enjoyed time with her family, including her daughters-in-law. Her pastimes were Cardinals baseball, Saluki basketball, fishing and cooking.

She also became an expert quilter over the past 30 years.

The family would like to thank the staff at Liberty Village and Manor Court, Memorial Hospital of Carbondale and Hospice of Southern Illinois for all the care given and compassion shown our Mom. We also would like to thank the many friends she made at Liberty Village over the past few years.

As a wife, mother and friend, she will be missed by those who loved her.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 21 at Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale. The Rev. Keith Joiner will be officiating. The family will host a "Celebration of Life" at Pinch Penny Pub immediately after the service. Times for both are yet to be determined.

The family would like to ask that all donations be made to St. Francis CARE Animal Shelter in Murphysboro.
