E.T. Gholson, formerly of Eldorado

E.T. Gholson of Chicago, husband of Lillian, loving father of Susan (Brian) Dunne of Western Springs, and Greg (Kathy) Gholson of Berkley, California, and proud grandfather of Hannah, Jack, Wesley and Eli, and brother to Thelma (Bob) Johnson of Fairfield, passed away Friday, May 25 at Lombard Place after a short stay at Northwestern Hospital.

E.T. was born in Eldorado to Alva Austin and Thelma Blanche (Rhine) Gholson on Dec. 8, 1925 and named with the initials of his paternal grandfather. He was raised on the Gholson farm, graduated Eldorado High School as valedictorian and continued his education at University of Michigan. E. T. received his B.B.A. degree after serving in the U.S. Army in Germany at the end of World War II from 1944-1946. He married Lillian Slobodzian in 1955 and worked at Martini & Rossi in sales and public relations until retirement.

E.T. will be fondly remembered by his family and many friends as a loving husband and father, Southern Illinois farmer, Michigan alumni, World War II veteran, traveling salesman extraordinaire, great joke teller and a very kind man who could make a friend anywhere. Despite his many talents, he will not be remembered as a chef!

A funeral will be held at noon on Thursday, May 31, at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield, with interment to follow in Rhine Cemetery near Eldorado. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. A memorial will also be held in Chicago at a date to be announced.
