Alfred 'Al' Gunzel of Harrisburg
Alfred "Al" Gunzel of Harrisburg passed away at 5:19 a.m. on Monday, June 24 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
Al was born on Aug. 13, 1938 in Shawneetown, the son of the late Fred Crist and Catherine (Seely) Gunzel. He married the former Joyce Tucker on April 4, 1958 and Joyce preceded him in death on Sept. 27, 2003.
He retired from the Defense Department as a quality assurance inspector.
Al was a member of the Harrisburg United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his son, Dr. David and Lorrie Gunzel of Harrisburg; one brother, Dan Gunzel of Portland, Oregon; three grandchildren, Lauren and Charlie Crimando of Rochester Hills, Michigan, Ryan and Karen Gunzel of Durham, N.C. and Jon Gunzel and Kim Doering of Herrin; and six great-grandchildren, Naomi, Stella, Sylvester, Ruby, Flora, and Josephine.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three sisters, Dotty Gunzel, Mary Eubanks, and Lulu Mae Pierson; and his brother, Fred Gunzel.
Visitation for Al will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 27 at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown.
The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 28 at the funeral home with Pastor Ron George officiating.
Burial will be at the Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown.
