Charlene L. (Kuhnert) Marlow

Charlene L. (Kuhnert) Marlow, 87, of Du Quoin, passed away at 1:47 A.M., Friday, November 6, 2015 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Charlene was born to Charles and Elta (Todd) Kuhnert on October 1, 1928 in Perry County, Illinois. She graduated from Pinckneyville High School, then attended S.I.U. at Carbondale, where she played in the band and was majorette. After school, she worked at F.W. Woolworth store as bookkeeper and secretary. Later, she worked in the office at Owens Transfer Company for several years, then she was hired at the Du Quoin State Bank as a teller, worked in the loan department bookkeeping and taught many new employees in the bank. She also was manager of the Tamaroa facility. Charlene retired from the bank after thirty-seven and a half years. She was a member of the Business and Professional Womenís Club. She was an avid bowler. She was on a bowling team for several years. She then became the Secretary and Treasurer for the city league for twenty some years. Charlene and her team attended several state tournaments throughout Illinois and several national tournaments. She was a member of the American Bowling Association for forty years. Charlene belonged to a pinochle club with several dear friends. She was a member of Paradise Baptist Church for sixty some years, where she sang in the choir, taught young ladies Sunday School class and was Sunday School Director until her death. Charlene and her husband went on vacation trips to Europe, Mexico, and the Bahamas. They also made several trips to the Gulf Coast, Smokie Mountains, California, Yellowstone National Park, and various trips around the United States.

She married Marion Roger Marlow on November 5, 1951 at the Paradise Baptist Church in Tamaroa and he survives.

She is survived by her husband of Du Quoin, one brother - Ronald Kuhnert and wife Diana of Tamaroa, two sisters - Eileen Hill and husband Arlen of Pinckneyville and Gloria Jones and husband Mark of Tamaroa, two brothers-in-law - Curtis Donahue of St. Louis, MO and James McGhee of St. Louis, MO, a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, very good friend - Kris Aken, very, very dear friend - Ester Balch, and many close friends.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers - Carl Kuhnert and Paul Kuhnert, and two sisters - Joy Donahue and Patsy McGhee.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner and Rev. Jim Spiller officiating.

Friends may call from 11 A.M. until the time of service on Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Paradise Cemetery at Tamaroa, IL.

Friends may make memorials to Paradise Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
