Pauline Carrothers of Du Quoin

Pauline Carrothers, 91, of Du Quoin, passed away at 1:48 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Pauline had been a seamstress. She had worked at Country Set Sewing Factory, Forrest City and Bridal Originals. She attended the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin and the Church of the Nazarene in Du Quoin. Pauline was a member of Perry County Gold Plate and ILGWU.

She was born March 13, 1927 at Gorham, IL, the daughter of Emmett Andrew and Nellie Marie (Bittle) Modglin.

She married Jimmy Carrothers on Nov. 26, 1949 at DeSoto, IL and he preceded her in death on May 16, 1992.

She is survived by two sons, Rodney (Ruth) Carrothers of Du Quoin and Jeffrey Carrothers of Du Quoin; two daughters, Linda Gassel of Du Quoin and Gaila (Jason) Self of Carbondale; daughter-in-law Mary Miller of Mayfield, KY; son-in-law William Koonce of Du Quoin; sister Sarah Jane Webster of McAllister, OK; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Terry Carrothers; daughter LaDonna Koonce; sister Betty Davis; brother Charles "Jack" Modglin; grandson Daryl Gassel and great-granddaughter Kaiden Walters.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Jerry Whittington officiating.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
