Margaret Brock
Margaret (Mannino) Brock, died peacefully on April 28, 2014.
She was born to Salvatore and Francesca (Mangiapane) Mannino on July 19, 1932 in Du Quoin, Ill. She and her husband of 63 years, Gene Brock, have lived in Fairfield Bay, Ark. and been members of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church for 20 years.
Margaret was a compassionate woman who enjoyed life and spending time with her family and friends. After marrying Gene, she traveled with him while he served in the U.S. Navy. They later settled in Johnston City, Ill. with their young children and Margaret became an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church. Once her children were of age to attend school, Margaret owned and operated La Curl Beauty Salon. When she and Gene moved to Iowa, Margaret took up tennis and golf; she loved hosting neighborhood parties and had returned to a career of teaching cosmetology. Margaret fell in love with the beauty of the Ozark Mountains and she and Gene began yet another life adventure by moving to Mountain View, Ark. where they owned and operated The Dogwood Motel. They later retired to Fairfield Bay, Ark. During quiet times throughout her life, she enjoyed writing poetry and stories, drawing and embroidery. Her family cherishes the many gifts of her creations including a book of bedtime stories composed for her grandchildren. She will be missed.
Survivors include: husband, Gene Brock; brother, Vincent Mannino of Waterloo, Ill.; daughter, Rosalie (Tom) Geoffroy of Union Grove, Ala.; son, Paul Brock of Dover, Ark.; grandchildren, Barbara (Rob) Frost of Florissant, Mo., Tom (Lee) Geoffroy of Miami, Fla., Nicole (Russell) Foster of Mountain View, Ark., Brian (Chandra) Brock currently serving in the USAF in the United Kingdom; great-grandchildren, Grace, Aaron and Stella Frost, Allison and Anniston Foster, Lilian and Joseph Geoffroy and Jase Brock. Survivors also include many nieces, nephews and close friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Salvatore and Francesca Mannino; siblings, Vito Mannino, Ida Wheatley Groh, Natale Mannino, Santina Wilbern, Frances Ferro Wilbern.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Du Quoin with Fr. Joseph Oganda officiating.
Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery.
Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Du Quoin.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to The American Heart Association or Margaret's parish, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
