City council race garners low turnout

Three new faces are set to join the Carbondale City Council following this week’s vote.

Dawn Roberts, Nathan Colombo and Brian Stanfield emerged from Tuesday’s consolidated election with winning vote tallies, although results remain unofficial until all mail-in votes are counted.

In all, 1,804 ballots have been counted in the race, representing a registered voter turnout of just 15 percent.

In the latest count, Roberts led all contenders with 917 votes. Colombo garnered 780, while Stanfield took 748.

Falling short were former council member Lee Fronabarger with 666 votes and Jason Endicott with 547.

Incumbent council members Ginger Rye-Sanders and LaCaje Hill ran as write-in candidates after disputes over their nominating petitions. Rye-Sanders collected 320 votes, while Hill brought in 307.

Each voter could choose up to three candidates. The newly elected council members will fill the seats currently held by Rye-Sanders, Hill and Jeff Doherty, who opted not to seek another term.
