Three juveniles arrested after report of gunfire

Carbondale Police say three juveniles are in custody following a report of gunfire last Saturday.

Officers responded around 5 p.m. Jan. 25 to the 400 block of South Graham Street for a report of a shot fired. No injuries were reported.

While investigating the incident, officers learned a juvenile male had arrived at the police department to report he had just been robbed. The victim reported an acquaintance displayed a firearm and demanded property from the victim on South Graham Street.

As the victim fled in a vehicle, the suspect reportedly fired a shot. The victim left the area with two other acquaintances and stopped in the 300 block of East College Street, where another of the victim’s acquaintances displayed a firearm and demanded property. The suspects ran from the area after taking his property. The victim then drove to the police department to report the incident.

The parents of two of the suspects cooperated and brought juvenile suspects to the police department. Officers arrested a 15-year-old juvenile from Carbondale and a 16-year-old from Carterville on charges of armed robbery, aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon.

On Jan. 27, the parent of the remaining juvenile suspect cooperated with the investigation and brought him to the police department. Officers arrested the juvenile suspect, age 15 from Cape Girardeau, on charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated battery.

All three suspects have been incarcerated at a juvenile detention center while awaiting a court appearance. Their identities are not being released.
