City hires Reno as full-time city manager
Carbondale has a new city manager, and he's a familiar face.
The city council on Tuesday approved a contract with Interim City Manager and Police Chief Stan Reno to serve as the city's full-time city manager. His initial salary as city manager is $186,014.40 per year.
Reno will maintain his status as police chief through June 30. He will appoint an acting chief to serve while the city conducts a national search for a new full-time chief.
"Serving the city of Carbondale as police chief has been one of the greatest honors of my career," Reno said in a statement. "I look forward to continuing to serve our community in this new capacity as city manager."
Reno is native to Carbondale and joined the Carbondale Police Department in 1997 after attending CCHS and SIU. He was named interim chief in 2020 and was appointed chief the next year. He was named interim city manager in 2023 following the departure of Gary Williams, who had served more than eight years prior to his resignation.
