One charged after armed robbery

A Carbondale man is in custody after an armed robbery attempt Monday evening.

Carbondale Police report that Jonquel M. Gaston, 27, was taken into custody in Champaign following the incident, which occurred after 6:30 p.m. Dec. 30 in the 900 block of East Main Street.

Gaston is charged with armed robbery and being an armed habitual criminal. Investigators coordinated with law enforcement officials in Champaign County, where officers arrested him. Gaston is incarcerated in the Champaign County Jail awaiting extradition to Jackson County.
