Laura Mahony speaks at AAUW meeting

Laura Mahony, First Lady of the SIU System, honored the American Association of University Women-Carbondale Branch by speaking at their first meeting of the year. Mahony covered three important areas of progress that SIU President Dan Mahony and his team of vice presidents and chancellors have made to the SIU system.

Mahony and Carbondale Chancellor Austin Lane have initiated new recruitment and retention programs for the Carbondale campus concentrated on recruiting more local students to SIUC and greater assistance to aid in student success. This has resulted in two years in a row of SIUC increasing student enrollment.

A second area Laura Mahony addressed was the president’s commitment to diversity and inclusion throughout the SIU system. A third area she spoke on regarded President Mahony's focus on improving communications throughout the system and marketing SIU in a more aggressive fashion to prospective students. This has resulted in the hiring of a new director of communications and marketing.
