Women for Change receives bucks from Confluence Books

Buck-a-Book sales at the Carbondale Farmers Market have led to a tidy windfall for Women for Change.

Confluence Books owner Sarah Heyer presented the pitcher of dollars to some members of Women for Change while visiting their Sewing Center at the Eurma Hayes Center. Five Saturdays of Buck-a-Book brought in $562.43.

Women for Change started from a group of women deciding it was time to stand up and make change in their community, the Northeast side of Carbondale. Their Red Hen Garden provides fresh produce to the neighborhood, as well as beautification. Volunteers are always appreciated. Their sewing room is open Monday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. Anyone can come to sew, learn to sew or teach sewing.

Confluence Books sells used books at 705 W. Main St. in Carbondale. Overflow books are put on sale at the Saturday market for a dollar per book, with all funds going directly to a local charity.
