The home at 2008 W. Sunset Dr. has been recognized with a Bright Spot Award from Keep Carbondale Beautiful, a local affiliate of the national nonprofit Keep America Beautiful. The home of Michael and Marilyn Haywood is iconic along Sunset Drive as the 'house with the lilies.' For the last 20 years, passers-by have been able to enjoy the beautiful scene of the summer-blooming Canna lilies set strikingly against the dark rock backdrop of the house. According to the Haywoods, for years they used to dig up the lily bulbs in fall and replant them in the spring, but warmer winters have allowed them to skip that work for the last several years.
