George E. Allen of Chester

George E. Allen, 86, of Chester passed away at 1:20 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Memorial Hospital in Chester.

He was born to the late Charles and Bertha (nee Woolard) Allen on Oct. 17, 1937, in Carrier Mills.

George married Norma Gail Owens on July 30, 1960, in Harrisburg, Illinois; she preceded him in death on May 27, 1998.

He retired from Menard Correctional Center in Chester, where he had worked for 30 years.

George enjoyed fishing at Randolph County Lake. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was an Army veteran.

Survivors include one daughter, Pam (Greg) Krantz Chester; two grandchildren, Chad (Jenny) Krantz Chester and Brett Krantz Chester; and three great-grandchildren, Garrett, Kinley and Sophia Krantz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and three brothers, Charles (Mary) Allen Jr., Robert (Karlene) Allen and William Allen.

The funeral service took place Saturday, July 13 at Pechacek Funeral Homes in Chester. Don Berry officiated Interment was at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Chester. Visitation was Saturday at the funeral home.
