The Elks Lodge #1243 building at 220 W. Jackson St. in Carbondale has been recognized with a Bright Spot Award from Keep Carbondale Beautiful, a local affiliate of the national nonprofit Keep America Beautiful. The 112-year-old building has been getting a facelift over the last several years, and the landscaping in front of the building is the most recent improvement. The beautification effort includes several hostas in a mulched area and potted plants including tomatoes. A white oak tree was also planted in memory of departed members.
