Carolyn Sue (Carter) McCoskey of Marion
Carolyn Sue (Carter) McCoskey went to be with her Lord on April 11, 2024, at 6:30 a.m.
Sue, as she was known to her family and friends, was born April 24, 1930, and was a lifelong proud resident of Marion. Her parents were H. Glenn and Beatrice (Deaton) Carter.
Sue graduated from Marion Township High School in 1948 and still kept in contact monthly with many of her classmates. She was president of the student body.
Sue went to William Woods College in Fulton, Mass., and the University of Illinois, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. After leaving college, Sue joined her family in the operation of the well known Stylart Shoppe on the square in Marion. She remained involved in the store’s operation until her retirement in 1995, only taking time off to raise, along with her husband, their two sons.
Sue married Robert “Bob” McCoskey on Aug. 16, 1952. They shared almost 50 years of marriage until Bob passed away in 2001. To this union was born two sons, Charles Bradley McCoskey and Robert Jeffrey McCoskey.
Sue was a lifetime member of the First Methodist Church in Marion, as were her husband and both sons. She was a member of the Lael SS Class and was formerly president of the ladies UMW group. After her retirement, Sue assisted cooking for the Rotary Club.
Sue was a 50-year member of the Fortnightly Club, a 50-year member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority and a former member of the Unit 2 Foundation.
She is survived by her loving son, Jeff, and the love of her life, her granddaughter Cortney Shea, and daughter-in-law Lorin McCoskey of Boca Raton, Fla; her cousins Cindy Hunt, Joe Campbell, Logan Hunt, Campbell Hunt (Puckett) and Dr. John Carter; and close family friends Martha Brandt and Betty Hahn.
Sue’s family and friends gathered on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home to share their precious memories of her.
