Harve Edward Fuhr, formerly of Shawneetown

Harve Edward Fuhr, 94, of Effingham, formerly of Shawneetown, died on Monday, April 8, 2024, at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

Harve was born on Sept. 15, 1929, in Eagle Creek Township, Gallatin County, to Anthony E. and Laura Fuhr, née Black. Harve served in the U.S. Army as a radar technician during the Korean War era. He was stationed in England.

Harve married Juanita Jean Colbert on Oct. 11, 1953. They were happily married for over 70 years. They had one son, Ronald E. Fuhr.

Harve was employed as a manager by the F. W. Woolworth Company for over 20 years. Thereafter, he and Juanita opened Fuhr’s Variety Store in Shawneetown. Harve also enjoyed working on his farmland and tinkering with cars. He had a knack for being able to quickly see how things work and repair them. The family often said, “See if Dad/Grandpa can fix it.”

Harve is survived by his wife, Juanita; son Ronald and his wife Kathryn; three grandsons, Clayton (wife Gretchen), Andrew (wife Kristi) and Carson Fuhr; and one great-grandson, Reece, and a great-grandchild to be announced.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, Bernard Fuhr, Mary Ruth York and Barbara Collins.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 19 at Leamington Cemetery in Junction under the care of Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown.
