First sectional winner for CHS newspaper

Chester High School junior and Sting staff member Kerringtyn Malley took first place in advertising in the IHSA Journalism Sectional April 9. She is the first sectional journalism champion in the Sting's history.

Malley will compete at state April 22 in Bloomington.

The video news team of sophomores Haley Hoskin, Aden McFarland and Ace Smith took fourth, narrowly missing qualification for state. The top three sectional finishers advance.

Senior Emma Bryant took sixth place in editorial writing. Senior Jordanna Frazer finished sixth in both review writing and editorial cartooning.

This was a very competitive year with large numbers of competitors in each category. A top six finish places at sectional, although only the top three receive medals and advance.
