Waldo Leon DeLassus of Chester

Waldo Leon DeLassus, 85 years old, of Chester, Illinois, died on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at home in Chester. He was born on Sept. 11, 1936 in Kaskaskia, Illinois.

He is survived by his daughter, Natalie J. (Robert "Doc") Powers of Springfield, Missouri; his son, Douglas "Doug" (Erinn) DeLassus of St. Charles, Missouri; a sister, Margaret Hendricks of Virden, Illinois; the mothers of his children, Mary Jane Operle and Charlotte Hill; two grandsons, Logan and Alex DeLassus; four granddogs, Tillie, Bitsy, Josie and Shasta; one grandcat, Louie; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara J. (Dick) Dethrow; his brother, John A. (Shirley) DeLassus; his father, Hugo J. DeLassus; his mother, Clarice M. DeLassus; and a brother-in-law, James "Jim" Hendricks.

Visitation will be at Immaculate Conception Church in Kaskaskia, Illinois from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2022. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the church.

Burial will be at Kaskaskia Cemetery in Kaskaskia.

Waldo was a professional optician. After retirement he continued to repair eyeglasses for family, friends, and the local community. He loved to spend time with his grandsons and found pleasure in fishing with his buddies.
