CHS student newspaper wins Blue Banner award

The Chester High School Sting student newspaper won a Blue Banner Award in the digital category at the Southern Illinois Student Press Association winter conference Feb. 23 at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Sting editor Emma Bryant received a first for on-site editorial writing and a third for submitted editorial. Ace Smith shared a first with Aden McFarland for multimedia story page. Smith also took second in the multimedia story category and third in on-site feature writing.

Other Chester staffers winning multiple awards were Jordanna Frazer, second for submitted review and third for on-site review; and Kerringtyn Malley, third for both advertising and original art.

Other Sting honorees: Madi Kribs placed second in submitted editorial. Lily Lochhead took third in submitted review, and Haley Hoskin got third in online editorial.

Coulterville honorees

Coulterville High School's The Screaming Eagle earned a Blue Banner award in the newspaper category.

Other Coulterville honorees:

Kaidence Hines, second, on-site review writing;

Shaylee Strong, second, on-site feature writing; and

Beth Hobbs, on-site news writing.
