Elaine Fae Foster of Du Quoin, formerly of Pinckneyville
Elaine Fae Foster, age 95, of Du Quoin, Illinois and formerly of Pinckneyville, Illinois, passed away on Friday, Feb. 25, 2022 at Pinckneyville Nursing and Rehabilitation in Pinckneyville.
Elaine was born on Jan. 10, 1927, in Pinckneyville, Illinois, a daughter to Edgar S. and Bessie M. (Keene) Carson. On April 30, 1949, she married George Thomas Foster in Pinckneyville, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1978.
Elaine graduated in 1944 from Pinckneyville Community High School. After graduation, she worked several years as a telephone operator in Pinckneyville. After the birth of her daughter she became a homemaker, staying at home with her daughter until 1956. She then began a job as an assembly line worker for P.R. Mallory in Du Quoin, a job she held for 12 years. Elaine worked in the Green's Market Bakery then clerked for Friedman's Clothing Store. She also worked at the Ben Franklin Variety Store and the Du Quoin True Value as a clerk. Elaine ended her career at Horstman's Cleaners in Du Quoin, where she retired.
She was an active member of Du Quoin First Baptist Church, where she taught youth Sunday school for many years. Elaine enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her grandson, Jesse, and the great-grandchildren. She liked to travel and was always ready for a day out shopping and dining with family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia (Foster) Barge and her husband, Jesse William Barge of Murphysboro, Illinois; one grandson, Jesse Foster Barge and his wife, Julianna Barge of Murphysboro; one great-grandson, Jesse Cooper Barge of Campbell Hill, Illinois; one great-granddaughter, Josephine Anne Barge of Murphysboro; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and stepmother, Bertha Carson.
Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Pinckneyville, with the Rev. Charles Allen officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
